My computer has been working fine. I have not reinstalled or altered windows.

Device drivers: WAN Miniport (SSTP) - free driver download. Tunneling adapter,Microsoft virtual. Download: WAN Miniport (SSTP) Driver premium driver. Wan miniport network drivers free download - Bluetooth Network Access Point Miniport Driver, WAN Miniport (PPP over Ethernet Protocol), Xircom CreditCard ISDN WAN Miniport, and many more programs.

I have an error on my Wan Miniport.

There is a problem with the driver for WAN miniport (Network Monitor) #2. Reinstalling the driver might fix the problem.

//and this message

This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)

The trouble shooter doesn't work, it just says it's not fixed.

Wan Miniport (Network Monitor) #2 has driver problem Not fixed

I cannot uninstall this through the device manager. I click ok on uninstall and it does nothing.

I have searched the internet and cannot find an answer, without going into the registry. This I am reluctant to do, unless it is upon advice of a trustworthy source.

There is also an option to Add Legacy Hardware, but I do not have enough knowledge to venture into this, without advice.

Wan

I use Avast, and have a 64 bit operating system. I mention this, as it has been aggressive with removing executable files and blocking things.

The hardware ID is ms_ndiswanbh.

This question has been closed and marked as a duplicate:

This question asks about installing windows on a new machine. There are no drivers present. In my question, I have drivers, but the troubleshooter suggests reinstalling them, and I have not been able to figure out how to do this.

I reinstalled windows on a new machine and the drivers are not present for the product network card. When in device manager all I get is the question mark and am unable to figure out the actual name of the vendor/model of the card making my search to find the correct drivers hard. Anyone know how I can find out more about the hardware that does not have drivers?

The answer to this question does not solve my problem.

There is a detailed explanation on a fix in the article Broken WAN Miniports.I suggest very carefully reading that article, for below I only give a short summary.

Uninstall the non-working miniport

Network Adapter Driver

  1. In Device Manager, right-click on the non-working miniport, choose Update Driver.
  2. Choose Browse my computer.
  3. In the next window, choose Let me pick driver from a list.
  4. Uncheck Show compatible hardware. From the Manufacturer list, choose Microsoft, and from the Network Adapter list, choose MAC Bridge Miniport. (It can be any device the user is allowed to uninstall.)
  5. Back in the device manager, delete the device that just turned into a MAC Bridge Miniport.
  6. Reboot.

Reinstall the miniports

  1. Get devcon.exe. Remember that a 32-bit version won't work on 64-bit systems. Getting the 64-bit version is described here.
  2. Go to command prompt run as administrator and go to the directory where you extracted devcon.exe
  3. The above article describes how to install many types of miniports, but I believe that you only need to install the Network Monitor:

    devcon.exe install c:Windowsinfnetrasa.inf MS_NdisWanBh

If running the command reports 'driver install' failure, don’t pay it attention.

  4. Reboot.

Safety notes

Before starting these manipulations, take backups of all your data. Then create a system restore point, so in case of a problem you could rollbackWindows to its actual state.

Ensure also that the .inf file C:Windowsinfnetrasa.inf does in fact exist.

If this doesn't work for some reason,an alternative approach is described in the articleRe-installing WAN miniport devices, that does however require registry work.

I had a user install an older version of SonicWall Netextender and it inavertantly broke the miniports. Under Device Manger the IKEv2, IP, IPv6, L2TP, Network Monitor, PPOE, PPTP and SSTP Miniports all showed with a yellow exclamation mark. (The miniports are typically hidden too, so if they aren't broken, they won't show up) This caused all attempts at establishing a VPN connect to not work. You can alway reinstall Windows but if the user/device is remote, as in my case, that may not be a viable solution. All it takes to fix them is uninstalling and re-installing the broken miniport. Unfortunately, they can't be uninstalled and re-installed like normal devices. After much Googlin', intuition and guessing I came upon this solution.

2 Steps total

Step 1: Uninstall the broken miniports

1) Open Device Manger (Right click on Computer and choose Manage -> Device Manger). Then in the View menu select 'Show hidden devices'.
2) Right click on the non-working miniport, choose “Update Driver”.
3) Choose “Browse my computer”.
4) In the next window, choose “Let me pick driver from a list”.
5) Uncheck “Show compatible hardware”. From the “Manufacturer” list, choose “Microsoft”, and from the “Network Adapter” list, choose “MAC Bridge Miniport”. (It can be any device the user is allowed to uninstall.)
6) Now you can delete the device that just turned into the “MAC Bridge Miniport” device.

After you have changed and deleted all of the broken devices, REBOOT. If you skip this step bad things can happen.

Step 2: Reinstall the miniports

Now the hard part. The miniports can not be installed like normal devices and are blocked by default. There are a couple of suggested methods of reinstalling them by commenting out the ExcludeFromSelect section in netrasa.inf. However, in my attempts this file is locked down by the system and there isn't an easy way to make them editable.

1) Download a current version of devcon.exe. Keep in mind the 32-bit version won’t work on 64-bit systems. Follow the steps outlined in “How to Obtain the Current Version of Device Console Utility (DevCon.exe)” http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/182.aspx on Microsoft’s TechNet wiki to obtain the ISO. From there I used 7-zip to open the ISO. Go into the WDK folder and look for setuptools_fre_cab001.cab. Again drilling into the cab using 7-zip you will find a file called _devcon.exe_00000. Extract this file and rename it to devcon.exe.
2) Open a Command Prompt and cd to the directory where you extracted devcon.exe
3) For each miniport that you have previously uninstalled, execute the command outlined below. DO NOT run all of them or run the command twice, as that will create second version of the existing miniport, which can cause problems again. If you are curious about where the Hardware ID and inf name comes from, in device manager on a working system, right click the miniport -> Properties -> Details Tab -> in the Property drop down select Hardware Ids or Inf name to see.
If running the command reports “driver install” failure, don’t worry, it usually does. The only problem is when it complains about the inf file missing, or a missing class (in which case you most likely made a typo in the last part of the command).
◦IKEv2:
devcon.exe install c:Windowsinfnetavpna.inf MS_AgileVpnMiniport
◦IP:
devcon.exe install c:Windowsinfnetrasa.inf MS_NdisWanIp
◦IPv6:
devcon.exe install c:Windowsinfnetrasa.inf MS_NdisWanIpv6
◦Network Monitor:
devcon.exe install c:Windowsinfnetrasa.inf MS_NdisWanBh
◦L2TP:
devcon.exe install c:Windowsinfnetrasa.inf MS_L2tpMiniport
◦PPPoE:
devcon.exe install c:Windowsinfnetrasa.inf MS_PppoeMiniport
◦PPTP:
devcon.exe install c:Windowsinfnetrasa.inf MS_PptpMiniport
◦SSTP:
devcon.exe install c:Windowsinfnetsstpa.inf MS_SstpMiniport

Once done REBOOT. For me the IKEv2 device still had a exclamation mark after reboot. For this run 'sc config RasAgileVpn start= demand' from a Command Prompt.

I hope this saves other people the few hours I spent in find the resolution to the missing or broken miniport maniacal problem. You man need to reinstall the VPN software and add any profiles.

Hello and thank you for this procedure, I just tried the first step of your procedure on a Windows 8.1 Samsung laptop for a user that can't use any VPN, either Cisco or Microsoft, the miniport type I have selected isn't showing, would you have any suggestions?

    Thank you

Was the first step successful. Meaning that it was there and following the first step allowed you to delete it? If that is the case then you need to re-add the miniport(s) that you deleted outlined in second step. If that is not the case it is a hidden device and you need to enable show hidden devices.
